Master George Ling Hu was born in Chung King, China on June 10, 1942. Both his parents were physicians of western medicine. His family moved to Taiwan in the late 1940's because of the Communist revolution.
At the age of 11, George Hu began his study of martial arts under Master Han, Ching-tang who was teaching at the Cheng Kao Middle School in Taipei. From Master Han George learned several types of Shaolin Temple boxing plus Chin-na and the Yang style of Tai Chi Chuan. After graduating in 1960, George began studying the secret Yang style of Tai Chi Chuan from Master Wang, Yen-yan. Later he studied the character system under Master Shung, Gen-shun.
Master Hu began teaching martial arts here in the United States soon after his arrival in 1969. From 1973 through 1977 he operated a studio in Downer's Grove, Illinois. He also taught at the University of Chicago, Governor's State University, Chicago's Chinatown, Roosevelt U., Illinois State University and the University of Illinois. In 1977 Master Hu left the Chicago area for Houston, Texas, where he continued to teach part-time until his retirement from the petroleum industry in 1992.
He now teaches professionally full-time at his studio and several other locations including local schools and the Chinese Cultural Center. In addition, Master Hu travels regularly providing instructional seminars in several locations including Michigan, Illinois, and Montana. He has also produced 4 instructional videos on Tai Chi sword, Seated Chi Kung, Swimming Dragon Chi Kung, and Tai Chi Chuan (13 Kinetic Movements).
George Ling Hu continues his own martial arts education through periodic trips to Taiwan and interaction with other Chinese martial arts instructors. |
